چکیده

a r t i c l e i n f o a b s t r a c t We investigate the enhancement of Kerr nonlinearities in an asymmetric coupled double quantum-well (CQW) by analyzing the nonlinear optical response. With the consideration of real parameters in AlGaAs-based CQWs, we indicate the possibility to obtain the giant Kerr nonlinearities with the cancellation of linear absorption simultaneously. We also reveal both analytically and numerically that under appropriate conditions a probe field with very low intensity can evolve into a stable shape-preserving waveform that propagates with a slow group velocity. The stability of such slow optical solitons is also demonstrated numerically.

Giant Kerr nonlinearities and slow optical solitons in coupled double quantum-wells

We show the formation of slow optical solitons in the asymmetric coupled double quantumwells (CQW) via a two-photon Raman resonance. With the consideration of real parameters in AlGaAs-based CQW, we indicate the possibility to have cancellation of the linear absorption and giant Kerr nonlinearities. With the controllable balance between dispersion and nonlinear effects in these solid-state base...

Dark Optical Solitons: Physics and Applications

We present a detailed overview of the physics and applications of optical dark solitons: localized nonlinear waves (or ‘holes’) existing on a stable continuous wave (or extended finite-width) background. Together with the traditional problems involving properties of dark solitons of the defocusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, we also describe recent theoretical results on optical vorte...

Controllable entanglement and polarization phase gate in coupled double quantum-well structures.

By analyzing the nonlinear optical response in an asymmetric coupled double quantum well structure based on the intersubband transitions, we show that a giant Kerr nonlinearity with a relatively large cross-phase modulation coefficient can be used to produce efficient photonphoton entanglement and implement an all-optical two-qubit quantum polarization phase gate. We also demonstrate that such ...

Quasi-particle theory of optical soliton interaction

The intra-channel collision of optical solitons, with non-Kerr law nonlinearities, is studied in this paper by the aid of quasi-particle theory. The perturbations terms that are considered in this paper are both of Hamiltonian as well as nonHamiltonian type. The suppression of soliton–soliton interaction, in presence of these perturbation terms, is achieved. The nonlinearities that are studied ...

Cavity-induced giant Kerr nonlinearities in a driven V -type atom

We discuss a simple and experimentally realizable model for creation of enhanced Kerr nonlinearities accompanied by vanishing absorption. The model involves a V -type atom subjected to a strong drive laser, a weak probe laser and coupled to a single-mode cavity field. Working in the bad-cavity limit, we find that the simultaneous coupling of the cavity field to both atomic transitions creates a...
